9 OCTOBER 2025
It was another spectacular morning aboard Moonshadow-TQC Cruises with an abundance of Humpback Whales putting on a show along the Port Stephens coastline.
Our crew counted between 10–15 whales, each in their own pods, scattered across the horizon and all heading south on their migration. Everywhere you looked there was action — breaches, tail lobs, and plenty of surface activity that had everyone on board reaching for their cameras.
At Fingal Island, we spent time with two Humpback mothers and their calves, both pairs showing off with powerful tail lobs and a series of huge breaches that had passengers cheering in excitement. The calm, clear conditions this morning made for the perfect backdrop to watch these gentle giants at play.
Adding to the experience, a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins made an appearance near Nelson Bay Heads, gliding effortlessly through the glassy water and rounding out a truly unforgettable cruise.
With so many whales still passing by and the ocean putting on its best display, it’s an incredible time to be out on the Humpback Highway in Port Stephens.
What an afternoon to be out on the water! Passengers aboard today’s Whale Watch Cruise were treated to an incredible display of Humpback Whale activity right here off the Port Stephens coastline.
We didn’t have to travel far at all — the action was happening between Fingal Island and Tomaree Headland, with many whales offshore all making their way southbound on their annual migration. Everywhere you looked there were mothers, calves, and escorts showing off with breaches, tail lobs, and plenty of surface activity.
A real highlight of the morning was a mother and calf near the Fingal Lighthouse, delighting passengers with a stunning show. The calf was especially energetic, performing double tail lobs and even surfacing with its mouth open, giving everyone an unforgettable close-up look.
To top it off, a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins joined the experience, gliding through the calm blue water and adding even more magic to an already spectacular morning.
With so much activity still happening close to shore, it’s the perfect time to experience the wonder of the Humpback Highway with Moonshadow-TQC Cruises.
