8 OCTOBER 2025
Passengers aboard Envision were treated to a spectacular show today, with the ocean coming alive in true Port Stephens style. The morning set the tone early when a very enthusiastic Humpback calf stole the spotlight, breaching repeatedly and showing off across multiple scenic backdrops — much to the delight of onboard photographer Lee Matthews, who captured an incredible series of action shots of the playful youngster.
All morning cruises reported multiple mother-and-calf pairs resting in close to Cabbage Tree Island, a favourite sheltered spot for the whales on their southern journey. As the morning progressed, these relaxed pairs came to life — tail slapping, breaching, and rolling at the surface — creating unforgettable moments for everyone on board.
The excitement didn’t stop there. In the afternoon, passengers aboard Envision were treated to an exceptionally close encounter as a calm and confident Humpback mum gently guided her calf right up alongside the vessel. The little one’s curiosity had cameras clicking and hearts melting as it surfaced just metres from the boat.
Adding to the magic of the day, the Australian Fur Seals at Cabbage Tree Island were soaking up the sunshine — some basking lazily on the rocks while others cooled off in the sparkling blue water.
It’s been another remarkable day on the water with Moonshadow-TQC Cruises, where every cruise offers something new to discover on the Humpback Highway.
Book your next whale adventure and experience Port Stephens from the best seat in the house — on the water.
