Today’s calm offshore conditions provided a beautiful backdrop as we headed out in search of Port Stephens’ migrating humpback whales.
While whale sightings were quieter than on some days, we were treated to a memorable encounter with a single humpback whale. As we approached, the whale delighted everyone on board with one spectacular breach before settling into a pattern of long, deep dives. Every so often it reappeared with an impressive tail slap, reminding us just how powerful these magnificent giants are.
The wildlife experience didn’t end there! As we cruised toward Cabbage Tree Island, a playful pod of oceanic common dolphins joined us, riding alongside the vessel and putting on a fantastic display. Their energy and curiosity always make for an unforgettable experience.
We also enjoyed a visit to the resident Australian fur seal colony, where the seals could be seen relaxing on the rocky shoreline and soaking up the winter sunshine.
Every day on the water is different, and that’s what makes whale watching so special. Whether it’s a spectacular breach, a curious dolphin encounter or watching the seals in their natural habitat, nature always has something unique to offer.
