2 AUGUST 2026

It was another spectacular day of whale watching in Port Stephens, with passengers treated to close encounters, playful juveniles and an incredible display of more than 30 breaches!

As MV Osprey cruised past Shoal Bay and out through the headlands, the crew spotted two Humpback Whales breaching in the distance. We headed towards the action, and although the pair settled down as we approached, one curious juvenile came close to the vessel, giving everyone onboard a wonderful view as it gracefully swam past.

The morning cruise also delivered an extra wildlife encounter, with a pod of Common Dolphins spotted enjoying the waters off Port Stephens.

Passengers aboard Envision received a thrilling surprise when a Humpback Whale suddenly launched into a spectacular breach. The whale continued its energetic display with several impressive tail throws, creating plenty of white water and excitement for everyone watching.

The afternoon whale watch was one to remember. Within approximately 500 metres of the Fingal Island Lighthouse, we encountered around four separate pods of Humpback Whales.

The highlight was an extremely active juvenile that began breaching repeatedly – and simply kept going! After more than 30 breaches, we lost count. It was an extraordinary display of power and energy, giving our passengers an unforgettable afternoon on the water.

Every cruise is different, and today’s encounters were a brilliant reminder of why the annual Humpback Whale migration past Port Stephens is so special.
