Whale Watching Moonshadow TQC Cruises Port Stephens Lee Matthews

What an incredible way to start the week!

Monday morning’s Whale Watch Cruise delivered a spectacular display of humpback whale activity, with the whales seemingly waiting just offshore for our arrival. As we made our way out to sea, we were greeted by three to four separate pods of migrating humpback whales, all putting on an unforgettable show.

Passengers were treated to a variety of exciting surface behaviours, including powerful tail lobs, energetic breaches, and impressive pectoral slaps that sent spray high into the air. The action didn’t stop there, with one curious whale making a particularly memorable approach, gliding in close to MV Osprey for a closer look at the delighted passengers watching from the deck.

If the morning cruise was impressive, the afternoon cruise took things to another level. When the crew briefing starts with whales to the left of the vessel, whales to the right, whales behind us, and whales ahead of us, you know you’re in for something special!

The afternoon became an action-packed whale watching experience, with multiple pods surrounding the vessel and an incredible breaching marathon unfolding before our eyes. Passengers enjoyed continuous sightings as the whales showcased their strength, agility, and playful nature throughout the cruise.

Days like today are a wonderful reminder of why Port Stephens is one of Australia’s premier whale watching destinations. With the humpback migration now well underway, every cruise offers the chance for unique encounters and unforgettable memories.
