What a way to welcome the weekend! Port Stephens turned on a spectacular warm spring day — calm seas, sunshine, and plenty of action on the water. Our guests were treated to an incredible showcase of Humpback Whale mums and their energetic calves cruising along the coastline.

It’s always amazing to remember that even a young Humpback calf is about the same size as a small car! Today, that comparison came to life with the perfect backdrops — the Fingal Island Lighthouse and a nearby fishing boat offered a clear sense of scale as both mum and calf launched out of the water in perfect synchrony.

In one unforgettable moment, the pair breached and tail slapped behind a fisherman, completely unaware of the spectacular show happening just metres away. Moments like these remind us why Port Stephens is such a magical place to witness the southern migration of these gentle giants.
