It’s been another incredible day on the Humpback Highway, with whales in abundance and activity across the bay and beyond. With so many pods in the vicinity, our captains chose to stay with a particularly engaging pod featuring a Humpback mother, her calf, and an escort traveling leisurely along the coastline.
The calf was the star of the show—perfecting its skills with energetic head lunges, full breaches, and even a very close tail lob right beside the boat! These young whales have so much energy to burn, and it’s always a thrill for passengers to watch them learn and play under mum’s watchful eye.
Both Whale Watch Cruises aboard the Hinchinbrook Explorer were treated to more than just whales today. Our local Port Stephens Bottlenose Dolphins made an appearance, cruising gracefully around Yacaaba Headland, adding to the magic of the day.
This afternoon’s whales were a little quieter—taking their time resting on the surface or completing longer sounding dives before resurfacing again. It’s a gentle reminder that every encounter offers something unique, from high-energy calf play to serene moments on the water surrounded by giants of the sea.
Spring whale watching continues to deliver unforgettable experiences in Port Stephens—don’t miss your chance to see these majestic Humpbacks before they continue their journey south!
