Who doesn’t love a no work public holiday Monday! Port Stephens is looking her best today with plenty of spring sunshine.
All whale watch cruise vessels have spent time with a very active Humpback Whale calf and its mother during our morning cruises.
The crew report from the MV Spirit was that the calf became very playful, tail lobbing the surface of the water for about 10 to 15 minutes, the Humpback mother then surprise everyone with a massive breach. They have also spotted another pair of mum and calf heading north bound and a pod of Common Dolphins.
We have caught up the same pair of Mother and calf during our afternoon whale watch cruise aboard the Hinchinbrook Explorer. The little calf has been very active, we are watching the calf learn its behaviours of breaching, pec and fin slapping. The Humpback whale calves just have so much energy. We are also able to see that there are a few other whales in the vicinity.
