Our morning whale watch cruise was cancelled due to unfavorable sea conditions, but lucky the southerly swell subsided to allow the afternoon passengers to board the Hinchinbrook Explorer and head off shore in the search for Humpback Whales.
It was certainly worth the wait with the crew report two whales breaching nice and close to the vessel, and encountering a friendly pod of Bottlenose Dolphins who were swimming in amongst the whales.
While the whales have been putting on an absolutely spectacular show over the opening of the season, we also need to vigilant when it comes to situations which may arise and when these beautiful creatures may be in distress. Today with a team effort from the crew onboard Hinchinbrook Explorer, we have reported the sighting of an entangle whale to ORRCA. Giving coordinates, visual report and images to hopefully assist the whale caught up in rope.
