We have had a very successful morning of whale watching aboard the Hinchinbrook Explorer. We have located a large pod of five Humpback Whales on the ocean side of Yaccaba headland, Hawks Nest. The pod has consisted of a Humpback mother and her calf, along with an escort and another two large whales. The pod of whales has approached the vessel, coming nice and close at one stage. There were many ohhhs and arhhhs as the little calf breached a number of times.
Before returning back to the sheltered waters of the harbour, we have stopped by Cabbage Tree Island to check out the seals basking on their rocky resting spots in the sun.
In the afternoon we had met a mother, calf and escort who spent alot of time on the surface, the calf looked to be having fun as it performed a few breaches. We then watched a large pod of common dolphins jumping out from the water from all directions.
