Good sea conditions have been reported by the skipper of the Spirit of Port Stephens. We have cruised quite some distance off shore during our morning whale watch cruise, and at a depth of 95 meters of sea water we have spotted a pod of whales heading north bound.
To start with the whales were completing sounding dives of up to ten minutes, and then to around four to five minutes. The whales were spending a good amount of time on the surface of the water expelling air three or four times between sounding dives. At one stage one of the whales has shown off with a large peduncle throw, splashing water everywhere.
As we have turned for home, cruising past the Yaccaba Headland we have viewed a large pod of Bottlenose Dolphins.
