Whale Sightings

Back to Whale Sightings

8 SEPTEMBER 2025

Port Stephens turned on its best today with stunning offshore conditions, blue skies, and sunshine – the perfect backdrop for a day of whale watching aboard MV Osprey.

Cruising north towards Broughton Island, the crew spotted the familiar puff of a whale’s blow in the distance. As we approached, it was revealed to be a mother Humpback Whale accompanied by her young calf. Guests were delighted to watch as the pair travelled gracefully together, a special reminder of the Humpbacks’ epic migration journey.

In the surrounding waters, two more pods were also sighted, each making steady progress southbound towards the nutrient-rich feeding grounds of Antarctica. With calm seas and plenty of activity on the horizon, it was a spectacular day to experience the majesty of these gentle giants.

As the season continues, the Humpback Highway through Port Stephens remains full of life, offering unforgettable encounters with whales, dolphins, and the stunning natural beauty of our marine park.

Join us soon aboard Moonshadow-TQC Cruises for your chance to witness these incredible moments out on the water.
