Today’s whale watching adventures showcased two very different sides of the annual humpback migration, with a peaceful morning followed by an afternoon that kept everyone eagerly watching for the next surprise.
Our morning cruise found three pods of humpback whales travelling steadily north near the islands. While the whales were in a relaxed travelling mood and surface activity was minimal, they rewarded passengers with plenty of quality surface time, allowing everyone to enjoy extended views as they gracefully continued their migration along the coastline.
Adding to the morning’s wildlife encounters, we spotted a small pod of common dolphins weaving effortlessly through the water before making our way to Cabbage Tree Island, where several Australian fur seals could be seen resting comfortably on the rocks.
The afternoon cruise began with a couple of humpback whales travelling north at an unhurried pace. Just as it seemed they would quietly continue on their journey, they surprised everyone on board with an incredible double breach, launching clear of the water almost simultaneously before settling back into a more relaxed rhythm.
As we continued our cruise, we were once again joined by a pod of common dolphins, delighting passengers as they surfaced alongside the vessel.
Before heading home, we returned to Cabbage Tree Island, where even more wildlife awaited. Several Australian fur seals were spotted swimming playfully in the water around the island, providing a fitting finale to another fantastic day on the water.
