Whale Sightings

Back to Whale Sightings

31 AUGUST 2024

The MV Osprey had a great Whale Watching cruise this morning spotting a mother and calf heading southbound, just north of Fingal Island with the calf breaching several times and was curious to see the boat however the mother threw in a few tail lobs to keep the calf away.  Upon leaving these Humpback Whales, the crew and passengers headed north to avoid a southerly swell and observed lots of breaches way out wide.  A couple of pods were heading north with tail lobs and pectoral slaps displayed.  On their way to Cabbage Tree Island a keen eyed passenger spotted a seal so the boat turned around to look closer and were suprised by an unseen Humpback Whale tail lobbing in front.  On Cabbage Tree Island the Seals were lazing enjoying the sun and a Sea Eagle hovering around.  As usual the Dolphins joined the boat as they started to head for the Marina.
