Whale Sightings

Back to Whale Sightings

28 MAY 2023

The crew aboard the 10am Hinchinbrook Explorer Whale Watch Cruise have spent a wonderful morning with a pod of five very active Humpback Whales. All whales were on the surface of the water for a good amount of time, and there was a bit of excitement within the pod with a bit of a heat run occurring. A heat run happens when the male Humpback Whales of the pod try to vie for the attention of the female with the males at time becoming quite vocal and aggressive as they attempt to become the dominate male of the pod.

Moving away from the whales we have cruised along to Cabbage Tree Island to see the seals. Today’s seal count was a total of 11 seals, with the majority basking in the autumn sunshine on the rocks and a couple swimming in the water.
