Today’s cruise brought us a little game of “hide and seek” with our migrating Humpback Whales. While they seemed more interested in staying hidden than letting us seek them out, Port Stephens’ other incredible wildlife was more than happy to step into the spotlight.
Around Cabbage Tree Island, our playful fur seals were lounging and splashing in the water, delighting everyone onboard with their cheeky antics. High above, we spotted an Osprey perched proudly on the wind gauge, keeping a keen eye over the bay. Adding a splash of colour to the day, a tiny sparrow with bright plumage made a surprise appearance, reminding us that wildlife encounters here come in all shapes and sizes.
While the Humpbacks kept us guessing today, their absence only highlighted how rich and diverse Port Stephens’ marine and coastal environment really is. Every cruise is a reminder that this is not just a whale highway, but a living, breathing sanctuary of wildlife.
