Back to Whale Sightings

26 SEPTEMBER 25

What a spectacular Friday morning it has been aboard Moonshadow-TQC Cruises! With calm seas and sunshine above, conditions were perfect for whale watching in Port Stephens.

Our day began near Cabbage Tree Island, where two playful calves delighted everyone with a series of joyful breaches. Cruising further, we encountered two more pods of Humpback mums with calves. One youngster couldn’t stop breaching, while another entertained passengers with dramatic head lunges and impressive tail slaps. Following their journey towards Yaccaba, we were then treated to the sight of a powerful adult Humpback putting on its own breaching display – a breathtaking moment for all on board.

Adding to the magic, a pod of energetic Pacific Dolphins joined us, riding the bow waves and showing off their own calves alongside the vessel. To top off the experience, we visited the west side of Cabbage Tree Island, where eight fur seals were basking in the sun. Guests even witnessed some playful rivalry as one seal challenged a large male for the prime rock position – a reminder that even in the seal colony, everyone wants the best spot!

From whales and dolphins to seals, today’s cruise was a true showcase of Port Stephens’ incredible marine life. There’s no better time to join us and be part of the action this whale season.
