Playful Calves and Dolphin Escorts off Broughton Island

This morning’s Whale Watch Cruise was full of special encounters and calm seas. We first sighted a Humpback mother and calf along the Broughton Island line, cruising peacefully on their southern migration. Not long after, we came across another pod of three — a mother, calf, and escort — and the little calf was the star of the show!

Guests watched in delight as the young whale practiced its moves with tail lobbing and breaching, learning the skills it will perfect on future migrations. The energy and playfulness were infectious, with cameras snapping and smiles all around.

Adding to the magic, both whale pods were accompanied by Common Dolphins, leaping and surfing through the waves beside them. With beautiful conditions on the water, it was a picture-perfect day for whale watching here in Port Stephens.
