MOONSHADOW TQC CRUISES WHALE WATCHING PORT STEPHENS

After a weekend just gone of wild winds and monster seas, to say were were keen to get back out on the water today is an understatement.

Our newest addition to the fleet ‘MV Osprey’ headed out just past Fingal Lighthouse this morning and was mugged! If you’re not sure what ‘mugging’ is when it comes to humpback whale behaviours, this is where a whale voluntarily comes in nice and close to your boat, and is generally acting quite inquisitive and friendly coming in close swimming under and around the boat.

Our crew described this lone whale as ‘sticky beaking’ and being calm and ‘cruisy’. Whilst there were a few more pods of whales in the distance, we decided to hang with this whale and provide him/her with some quality viewing of us.

Stopping off at Cabbage Tree Island on our way back we found Australian fur seals basking on the rocks and a few large pods of bottle nose dolphins coming back into the bay.
