Whale Sightings

Back to Whale Sightings

19 JULY 2023

This morning on board Hinchinbrook Explorer we came across 2 adult whales with their calf, coming in fairly close to us and being a bit inquisitive. They then decided to show off with a few tail lobs here and there, and gave us some good surface time to spend with them. Although a little choppy out at sea, our crew and passengers still enjoyed themselves. Around 15 of the cutest fur seals were seen at Cabbage Tree Island with 5 of them deciding to go for a splash and began swimming and sailing (they do this to help regulate their body temperature when swimming. They lose less heat in their bodies when swimming because their flipper is out being warmed by the sun.)
