Whale Sightings

Back to Whale Sightings

11 JUNE 2026

Our morning cruise began with a special welcome from some of our local residents, as a pod of bottlenose dolphins was spotted offshore on our way out to sea. Their playful presence provided a fantastic start to the day and had passengers smiling before we had even reached the whale grounds.

Once offshore, we encountered four separate pods of humpback whales travelling north. The whales were widely scattered throughout the area, creating the impression of a possible heat run developing as multiple groups moved through the region. While activity was generally steady, passengers were treated to a surprise breach that erupted from one of the whales, catching everyone off guard and drawing plenty of excitement from around the vessel.

On our return journey, we made a stop past Cabbage Tree Island where several Australian fur seals were spotted resting on the rocks, providing a perfect finale to an already enjoyable morning on the water.

The afternoon cruise began with several pairs of humpback whales making their way north. While these whales were travelling calmly and weren’t displaying a great deal of surface activity, patience paid off in spectacular fashion.

Further ahead, we discovered a lone humpback whale that was determined to steal the show. The whale began breaching repeatedly, launching its massive body clear of the water time and time again in an incredible display of power and agility. Guests were treated to an unforgettable encounter as the whale continued its energetic performance, turning a quiet afternoon into one of the most exciting cruises of the season so far.

Days like today are a perfect reminder that every whale watching trip is different. From scattered pods and surprise encounters to dolphins, seals and a breaching humpback that simply wouldn’t stop performing, the ocean delivered another unforgettable experience for our passengers.
