This morning’s report from our crew onboard MV Osprey’s Whale Watching Cruise was “Whales everywhere!” We had quite a few pods that were coming in nice and close to our boat with some close displays of tail lobs, while so many more pods were in the distance having a breach-a-thon. When it came time to move on and make our venture across toward Cabbage Tree Island to visit the local australlian fur seals, our captain simply said “We can’t leave yet, we’re surrounded by whales and I cant move the boat”. Not a bad situation to find yourself in, but alas we didn’t get the chance to see our lazy furry friends on the rocks.
One rare sighting we did have was a beautiful Sooty Albatross which we normally wouldn’t see around our waters here. Another incredible reason to choose a Whale Watching experience on board a MSTQC cruise as we don’t just come across the humpback whales in their natural habitat, but many more close up photo opportunities from other wildlife that you just simply can’t get from land.
