We had good calm conditions offshore today and once we were out just off the lighthouse, we were able to locate two pods of humpback whales showing off with lots of surface activity. They performed some single and double breaches right next to the boat, as close as 100m from the boat!
And in the distant, we could see more whales ahead doing all the same tricks of body rolls, tail slapping, head lunges, breaches etc. These guys certainly don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon!
There were lots of common oceanic dolphins out there amongst the whales today also, and our crew even said at one point they looked to be playing with & pestering the whales a bit.
On our way back we passed by Cabbage Tree Island and found about 10 sleepy seals not doing much, but having a nice rest nonetheless!
