Whale Watching Update – A Photographer’s Dream Day on the Water
Port Stephens turned on the magic today, delivering the kind of picture-perfect conditions every photographer dreams about. With glass-calm seas and sparkling visibility across our breathtaking offshore playground, guests aboard MV Osprey were treated to an unforgettable display of Humpback Whale behaviour.
Not long into our cruise, we encountered an especially playful calf who was more than happy to put on a show. This enthusiastic youngster delighted everyone onboard, breaching repeatedly before rolling across the surface and showing off with joyful pectoral fin slaps. With the mother cruising calmly nearby, it was a beautiful glimpse into the energy and curiosity of these young whales as they make their way along the Humpback Highway.
Adding to the magic, a large pod of Common Dolphins raced over to join in the fun—surfing the bow, leaping through the sunlight, and giving passengers an extra special treat before they dashed off in search of lunch.
Days like this remind us just how special this region is and why Port Stephens is one of Australia’s premier whale-watching destinations. We thank all our guests for joining us on the water today and sharing in such spectacular encounters.
