Whale Watching Moonshadow TQC Cruises Port Stephens Lee Matthews

Port Stephens Whale Watching Update — A Day of Gentle Giants & Playful Dolphins

Today’s cruises with Moonshadow-TQC Cruises delivered unforgettable encounters with some of our favourite marine locals, showcasing why Port Stephens is one of Australia’s most incredible whale-watching destinations.

Our morning adventure began just outside the offshore islands of Boondelbah and Little Island, where we spotted a beautiful Humpback mother and her calf gliding gracefully along the coastline. With calm seas and perfect viewing conditions, guests enjoyed extended time with the pair as they lingered on the surface during their southbound migration. There’s nothing quite like watching a young Humpback learning the ropes from mum in the wild waters of Port Stephens.

As we made our way back toward the harbour, our journey was made even more special by a cheerful pod of our resident Bottlenose Dolphins cruising near Dolphin Rock. Their playful energy always brings smiles to everyone onboard!

The afternoon cruise continued the magic, beginning with another mother-and-calf Humpback duo near Cabbage Tree Island. After a peaceful moment with them, our crew spotted activity to the north — a pod of Humpback mums and calves breaching in the distance as we travelled toward Broughton Island. The action didn’t stop there, with a large pod of Offshore Common Dolphins joining us along the way, riding the wake and putting on a spectacular show alongside the vessel.

From tender moments between mothers and calves to bursts of energetic dolphin play, today showcased the incredible variety of wildlife that calls our region home during the whale migration season.

We look forward to welcoming you on board soon for more unforgettable encounters on the Humpback Highway! 🌊🐋🐬
