Our morning cruise got off to a fantastic start with a pod of local bottlenose dolphins spotted around Yacaaba Headland. These resident dolphins provided a wonderful welcome as we headed offshore in search of the migrating humpbacks.
We didn’t have to travel far before locating the whales, with several humpbacks found close to Broughton Island. The whales were in a particularly playful mood, treating passengers to plenty of exciting surface activity.
We witnessed pectoral fin slaps, body rolls and even a spectacular double breach, with two whales launching themselves from the water in an incredible display. It was the kind of encounter that had everyone watching closely and cameras ready!
Adding even more excitement to the morning, we also encountered some massive oceanic dolphins offshore. With whales and dolphins sharing the same waters, it was a fantastic showcase of the incredible marine life found along our coastline.
Our afternoon cruise continued the theme of playful humpback whales, with several whales located north of Fingal Island. These whales provided excellent surface time, allowing passengers to enjoy extended views as they surfaced and travelled through the area. Although we didn’t locate any seals around Cabbage Tree Island on this occasion, the wildlife encounters continued as we headed back in towards the bay.
Near the break walls at Shoal Bay, we spotted another pod of our local bottlenose dolphins, providing a lovely finale to the afternoon cruise as they moved through the water close to home.
