It’s an absolute picturesque perfect day for whale watching at Port Stephens! The crew on this mornings cruise are overwhelmed with joy reporting the day as pure magic! We had the most breathtaking experience watching two angelic Humpback Whales traveling north. They were so curious and gave us an incredible view of their sheer size and beauty. We have cruised past Cabbage Tree Island and saw our adorable fur seals, and we had a surprise large pod of dolphins.
Talk about a whale high, if we thought the morning cruise was stunning the afternoon cruise has surpassed anyone’s expecations. It’s a good day when the whales are so close that we are covered in whale snot. Our onboard photography Lee Matthews has described the afternoon; Initially, we went to see two pairs of whales that were tail-slapping and peduncle-throwing but when we arrived, they slowed their displays and headed over to give us a closer inspection ie. mugging. At one point we noticed that another two whales had joined the group and six whales were mugging us, spy-hopping, rolling around just below the surface, and then surfacing and blowing noisily, giving everyone a nice spray of whale snot. There was even a moment when we felt the boat move/rock gently, although I’m not sure what exactly caused that to happen.
