Plenty of pods of whales around this morning aboard our Hinchinbrook Explorer. It didn’t take our crew long to find the right pod to follow, as this particular pod were showing off with a few breaches, fin slaps and tail lobs. Our passengers minds were soon taken off the bumpy sea today with these majestic creatures frolicking on their migration north.
During our afternoon cruise there was a lot of action on Humpback Highway and our crew & passengers alike certainly got their fix! The whales pulled out all the tricks in the book with breaches, tail slaps, pec fin slaps and 2 even showing off with almost synchronised double breaches! Something we hadn’t seen this season yet was some peduncle throws which is a powerful manoeuvre executed when a humpback pivots its head downwards and throws the lower portion of its body across the water surface.
The albatross didn’t lead us astray today that’s for sure!
