“An abundance of whales!” our crew reported back from MV Osprey on this morning’s whale watching cruise. We very soon picked up (in our first hour of the cruise) twelve whales which were southbound and looking to be very active and in a big heat run. We assume it was the female that kept edging closer to out boat and was somewhat using our boat as a shield to keep her away from the aggressive behaviour of the males all vying for her attention.
We had breaches and all the activity we’d hope for during one of our cruises which meant we followed this large pod of whales heading south for the majority of our cruise. This left us not enough time to venture over to Cabbage Tree Island to see if we could spot some australian fur seals, alas we do still have another cruise this afternoon to come.
