This morning we headed straight out to the heads to the Humpback Highway, where we spotted two whales traveling north, with another pod not too far away. This soon turned into an exciting heat run when both pods joined together at quite a speed with lots of surface time and one enormous breach which took everyone by surprise.
We had too much fun with the whales this morning to have the time to venture over to Cabbage Tree Island to see the seals, but we caught up with a mother & calf Bottle nose Dolphin’s coming back via Shoal Bay who enjoyed spending some time with us on the crystal blue water before heading back to the marina.
The afternoon whale cruise was an absolute blast with a mum humpback teaching her calf how to tail slap, pectoral waving and finishing off with a little breach, all before a pod of whales captured our attention with more group breaching. We were captivated by a display of whale acrobatics as two pods joined and had a breach off!
Our cruise finished with a few fur seals at Cabbage Tree Island and seeing a large nursery pod of Bottle Nose Dolphins along Yacaaba Headland.
