We have been blown away with our whale encounter this afternoon, even our crew became lost for words with the most wonderful mugging of MV Osprey by a couple of very curious Humpback mums and their calves.
Initially we have viewed and followed a mum and her calf as they swam near to Yaccaba Headland with the calf practicing its breaching. The pair has traveled towards Cabbage Tree Island seeking the protection of the island as the winds picked up a little, where they have joined another pod with mum and calf. All whales were quite relaxed rolling on the surface of the water with the calves visibility eyeing off the boat and their surrounds.
But this is where the afternoon has become so exciting as the group came to mugged the boat, with the calves swimming in so close to the bow of MV Opsrey giving all of our passengers an unbelievable sight of the white under belly and beautiful tails of the babies. Even after multiple season of whale watching at Port Stephens our crew get such a buzz from encounters such as today’s.
