2 JULY 2026
Today’s cruises delivered another magnificent day on the sparkling waters of Port Stephens, with unforgettable wildlife encounters from start to finish.
Our morning Whale Watching Cruise headed offshore to Fingal Island, where guests were treated to the excitement of a spectacular heat run. The energy on the water was incredible as several Humpback Whales competed for position, creating an exhilarating display of speed and power.
After leaving the heat run, the excitement continued when we encountered another five to six Humpback Whales. These curious giants delighted everyone onboard, displaying a variety of natural behaviours and approaching to within just 20 metres of the vessel. Watching these gentle giants so close in their natural environment is a truly breathtaking experience and one our passengers won’t soon forget.
Adding to the day’s wildlife highlights were the resident seals at Cabbage Tree Island. These relaxed locals were spotted lounging on the rocks during both our morning and afternoon cruises, seemingly enjoying the beautiful winter sunshine as much as we were.
The afternoon cruise offered a more peaceful experience, with a couple of pods of Humpback Whales leisurely continuing their northern migration. While the whales were taking it easy, the local dolphins were anything but!
Around 20 to 30 playful Bottlenose Dolphins stole the show in the dolphin nursery at the base of Yacaaba Headland. Their acrobatic leaps, playful interactions and energetic swimming created the perfect finale to another incredible day on the water, delighting passengers of all ages.
Every day is different during whale season, and today’s combination of thrilling whale encounters, playful dolphins and relaxed seals showcased exactly why Port Stephens is one of Australia’s premier wildlife destinations.
We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
