Epic Whales! We are being spoilt with pods of whales in every direction during our 10am whale watch cruise. The southern migration of whales passing close into the shore at Port Stephens is amazing this year. The majority of Humpback pairs of mum and calf have been seen traveling in conjunction with another female escort who assists mum in looking after the calf. All the pods sighted during the morning cruise have been taking shelter close to the off shore islands, with lots of playful action. The crew have also reported seeing a mother and calf pair logging on the surface of the water – whales do this when resting.
Our afternoon cruising the Port Stephens Humpback Whale Highway has been highly successful! We have spent time with two pods of three Humpback Whales with mum, calf and a female escort. Both pods were located close into the off shore islands of Cabbage Tree and Boondelbah; and with the wind picking up the whales became very jumpy with lots of playful activity including breaching, tail lobbing, head lunging, pec slapping. The whales certainly kept us entertained all afternoon!
