We are seeing an abundance of Humpback Whales making their way along the Port Stephens coastline, and this morning has been no different with plenty of pods being sighted once we make our way out through the headland and towards the Fingal Island Lighthouse.
It has been an exciting morning on each of our whale watch cruises, Hinchenbrook Explorer has met up with a very inquisitive juvenile Humpback Whale that mugged the vessel and stuck with us for approx 20 minutes while just continuously going in circles on the front of the bow. At one point a couple of dolphins came in and seemed to be hanging out with the Humpback Whale.
Passengers on the MV Spirit have also had a close encounter with a pod of two Humpback Whales, with a whale on each side of the vessel coming in close at times showing a beautiful under water shading of the whites of their bodies. Lots of playful displays from this pair, with the whales rolling about on the surface of the water, pec slapping, tail slapping and the most special spy hop with one of the whales poking its head out of the water to see what was happening above the water line.
