Port Stephens delivered a truly unforgettable day on the water, with both passengers and crew walking away on an absolute whale high.
This morning’s 90-minute Whale Watch Express was nothing short of breathtaking. Guests were treated to a spectacular performance from a very active female Humpback Whale who seemed determined to steal the show. With continuous breaching, tail lobbing, and powerful pectoral slaps, she had everyone on board cheering with delight. Even more remarkable, this whale was heading northbound—an unusually late movement for this time of year, making the encounter all the more special.
If that wasn’t enough, the afternoon 1:30pm Whale Watch Cruise aboard MV Osprey raised the bar again. Two super-inquisitive Humpback Whales spent around 30 minutes “people watching,” circling the boat and moving from one side to the other as though they were curious about every single passenger. The crystal-clear aqua waters illuminated their glowing white bellies as they rolled and played alongside us, offering unforgettable views. The highlight? A series of spectacular spy hops, as the whales vertically propelled themselves above the surface for a closer look at their captivated audience.
Today’s encounters are the kind that remind us why we love what we do. To be “mugged” by whales—when they choose to approach us and linger out of pure curiosity—is the ultimate gift from the ocean. From the laughter and excitement onboard to the joy radiating from our crew as they disembarked, it’s safe to say this was a day that will be remembered for years to come.
