Our cruise director Cami on board Hinchinbrook Explorer this morning said “Wow – where do I even start?!” when describing their time offshore this morning along the humpback highway. With the conditions offshore very cool and windy, this didn’t stop our marine mammal friends from giving our passengers a spectacular viewing today.
As soon as we headed past the headlands we located a small pod of two whales migrating north. These guys were just happily ‘cruising’ north and not displaying too much exciting activity so we soon decided to turn around and head towards Fingal Lighthouse. Good thing we did as when we arrived we were mugged by three large adult humpbacks! This first started with lots of surface time and then had the whales coming along the left side of the boat nice and close with incredible displays of head lunging, and really just looked to be very curious of us. They chose to do this for around 10mins or so, and we were certainly happy to stick around for it.
