Whale Watching Moonshadow TQC Cruises Port Stephens Lee Matthews

A few early showers gave way to warm, humid weather and great offshore sea conditions today, setting the scene for a memorable day of wildlife encounters with Moonshadow-TQC Cruises.

Our morning cruise spotted several humpback whale pods, including a mother and calf near Boondelbah Island. Around Cabbage Tree Island, passengers watched another group of three whales – a mother, her calf and a travelling female escort.

The dolphins also made an appearance! A large pod of common dolphins surrounded the boat, darting in and around us for a closer look. Their lively visit added another highlight to an already rewarding morning on the water.

As we cruised back past Cabbage Tree Island, passengers could also spot a couple of large adult male seals resting on the rocks.

Our afternoon whale watch took passengers a little further up the coastline towards Broughton Island, with views of Bennetts Beach at Hawks Nest along the way.

The crew reported a very active adult humpback whale having a “whale of a time”, treating passengers to repeated breaches and powerful peduncle throws – dramatic movements that fling the whale’s tail and rear body out of the water. These spectacular displays created plenty of white water and impressive splashes!

From mothers and calves to curious dolphins, resting seals and an energetic afternoon performer, today offered plenty to enjoy off the Port Stephens coastline.

Every cruise brings a different experience as we watch these animals in their natural environment. Join Moonshadow-TQC Cruises for your chance to discover what the next day on the water has in store.
