Whale Sightings

Back to Whale Sightings

1 NOVEMBER 2024

We still cant get over this end of whale Season that we’re having! Another sensational day out with beautiful spring weather and playful humpbacks. This particular calf who didn’t seem to take their eye off us, breached and head lunged with it’s mouth open, showing it’s baleen plates and tongue, over and over again. The adults appeared to be practising their submarine skills in the afternoon until our eagle-eyed crew member spotted 3 big whales further out. They continued to breach and head lunge until just after we reached them and then decided to continue their journey south.
We were delighted to have a group of common dolphins play on the bow this afternoon and at one point everybody stopped and listened so we could all hear the clicks and squeals as the dolphins called to each other. We also found a couple of the Cabbage Tree Island fur seals enjoying the sun and having a wash in the crystal clear waters. Then as we entered the bay we saw two of our local bay dolphins demonstrating a double breach of their own style this afternoon on our whale watching cruise.
