We have located a pair of adult Humpback Whales heading north bound past Fingal Island during our morning whale watch cruise on the Hinchinbrook Explorer.

The pod of whales were spending three to five minutes beneath the surface of the water on their sounding dives, a whale will lifts its tail into the air to increase the drive of its body more sharply decent to deeper waters. A whale will use this time to track their journey along the coast line, they will remember from year to year the formation of the sea beds to know they are heading in the right direction.

As we have cruised back towards home coming in through the Tomaree Headland we have sighted a pod of local Port Stephens Bottlenose Dolphins at the Yaccaba side of the entrance bar.
