Whale Reconnaissance and Outer Island Cruise
Cruise along the famous ‘Humpback Highway’ as whales begin their annual migration along the spectacular Port Stephens coastline. Join us onboard MV Osprey, for a 2.5-hour Whale Reconnaissance & Outer Island Cruise, where we head offshore in search of the very first whales of the season. Guests are invited to be part of the excitement as we search together for the tell-tale blow or breach of the first migrating humpback whales for the 2026 season.
This early-season expedition ventures beyond the headlands into the open waters off Port Stephens, exploring the breathtaking Outer Islands, including Cabbage Tree Island and Boondelbah Island, part of the Port Stephens–Great Lakes Marine Park. These remote islands are home to thriving seabird colonies and stunning coastal landscapes rarely seen from land.
While keeping watch for migrating whales, you may also encounter wild Bottlenose or Common dolphins, Australian fur seals, pelagic seabirds and other marine life that inhabit these rich offshore waters. With pristine ocean views and abundant wildlife, this cruise offers a thrilling blend of exploration, nature and the anticipation of the first whale sightings of the season.
NOTE: standby vouchers are not issued if whales are not spotted
