An exciting day on the water today during both morning and afternoon cruises. On our 10am whale watching cruise we located two pods of humpbacks heading north with a couple of close surprise interactions. One whale put on quite the display of breaching and head lunging while another, possibly a female looked to be trying to separate herself from two other males. After spending some great time with the whales we then headed over toward Cabbage Tree Island and saw six Australian fur seals playing happily in the water. Coming back in past Fly Point we then looked up to see a white bellied sea eagle perched above us and a pod of local bottle nose dolphins enjoying the shallows.
Our afternoon cruise had passengers and crew all gasping with excitement as we were mugged by three whales! A mugging is one of the best things you could want to experience during whale watching season where it’s really the other way around, instead of us whale watching, it’s really them human-watching. They came in nice and close to the boat circling under and right up along side our boat body rolling, spy hopping, tail slapping and giving our passengers an absolute winner of a cruise.
