Great start to a sunny day with the crew from Hinchinbrook Explorer reporting a pod of Humpback whales, 5 in total near Fingal Island.
While viewing the large pod, they kept popping up nice and close to the vessel and from time-to-time changing sides so all customers around the boat had great viewing. The pod also put on a bit of a show with tail diving, pectoral waving, and head lunges, but the icing on the cake was a massive breach towards the end of the cruise. Our afternoon cruise was super busy with multiple pods to choose from and 2 breaching just off Boondabah Island. Fun Fact is a protective nature reserve due to the rare bird called the Gould’s Pertrel that uses that and near by Cabbage Tree Island for nesting.
The crew where lucky enough to also see a Sea Turtle just past the heads on the way back in.
